'It Was A Panic:' Man Rushed To Hospital After Medical Emergency At Sandcastle

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) - There was panic at Sandcastle earlier today when a man suffered a medical emergency inside the park and was rushed to the hospital.

Those at the park emphasized how scary the situation was, they say they were hanging by the pool and then heard screams.

"It was a horrible, horrible scene," said Kirstin Carpenter, a witness. "A woman yells there's somebody floating in the water. There was a lot of people that were very emotional, very emotional. There was people behind us praying."

Witnesses recalled the terrifying moment when a man suffered said medical emergency at one of the pools.

"All of a sudden we heard screaming and yelling," said Tony Talarico. "It was a panic. It was really sad and scary."

According to Sandcastle, the man collapsed as he was exiting the pool around 3:15 p.m.

Witnesses said the man was pulled from the water with the help of others.

"A random guy that is the true hero who helped get him out of the water pulled him up to the lower end of the pool and by that time from here to here was already blue," said Carpenter.

The man was treated by park staff and Munhall EMS before being taken to a local hospital.

His condition is unknown.

"The EMTs were all taking turns trying to give him compressions and that seemed to go on for a half-hour, maybe more," Talarico added.

West Homestead Police told KDKA's Shelby Cassesse they don't have any new information about the incident at this time.
