Large Water Main Break In St. Clair Leaves Nearly 100 People Without Water Service
UPDATE (July 23, 2020) -- Penn American Water says while water service has been restored, repair work to the road continues, so traffic restrictions remains in place.
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A water main break shut down Becks Run Road and left nearly 100 people without water service Wednesday.
A Pennsylvania American Water representative says it was a 20-inch main that broke overnight, sending water gushing into the air. It happened near Wagner Street and Mountain Avenue in Pittsburgh's St. Clair neighborhood. Ninety-five customers were without water service.
Neighbors said Becks Run Road looked like a river as swift moving water -- about 6 inches high -- covered the road.
"I hear all this water -- I came outside -- I hear all this water rushing, I'm like, 'did it rain again or something?' I stick my hand out, no rain," said one resident.
Piles of large rocks were scattered across Becks Run Road once the water stopped flowing. People who live in the St. Clair neighborhood said this is nothing new.
"I mean it's happened before, it'll happen again," a resident told KDKA's Lisa Washington.
The early morning water main break is about a half-mile from East Agnew Avenue, where a massive water main break occurred in September of last year.
Allegheny County Public Works crews blocked off the road so they can get their crews on scene to repair the break.

Pennsylvania American Water said it expects the repairs to be completed by late this evening.
