According to police, reports from witnesses indicate a man was driving erratically along Route 8 northbound when his car crossed the centerline and crashed into a Penn Waste semi that was stopped at a red light.

“The light changed, he started to pull out, I started to pull out, and I stopped because I saw the car coming directly toward him, and I don’t know if he was still moving or stopped, the fella in the truck, but there was nowhere he could go,” Tom Fleming, a witness to the crash, said.

The victim was identified by the medical examiner as Michael Petro.

The road was shut down for much of the morning while police investigated and crews cleared the scene.
