SUTTON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia man has been charged in the death of his 3-year-old stepson, according to court records.
Samuel Thomas Workman, 33, of Sutton was charged Tuesday with death of a child by abuse and neglect, news outlets reported, citing a criminal complaint filed in Braxton County Magistrate Court.READ MORE: Mon Wharf Reopening For Parking On Monday
Crews were initially called to the home after the boy was reported as unresponsive, the criminal complaint said. The child was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Workman told police he left the residence and returned to find the child unresponsive, the complaint said. He said he tried to perform CPR for 20 to 30 minutes before calling authorities.
