U.S. Senator Bob Casey Introduces Police Reform Bills To Better Handle People With Disabilities

By: KDKA-TV News Staff

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- United States Senator Bob Casey introduced a pair of bills on Monday aimed at improving the way police engage with people who have disabilities.

Senator Casey (D-PA) says at least 25% of police shootings involve a person with a mental health disability.

The bills Casey introduced would enhance state and regional 2-1-1 and 9-8-8 call systems and divert non-criminal emergency calls to human services and mental health agencies.
