59-Year-Old Man Dies After Falling From Roof Of Building On South Park Fairground

SOUTH PARK (KDKA) -- A man died after falling through the roof of a large building on the South Park Fairgrounds, Allegheny County police said.

Law enforcement said the man was working at Agricultural Hall on Wednesday when he fell through a skylight in the roof, plummeting 20 feet to his death.

Family members gathered around in support after hearing their loved one didn't survive the accident.

"The entire company is family. So they started showing up on scene immediately," said Inspector Wesley McClellan with Allegheny County Police Department.

The Allegheny Co. Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 59-year-old Frank Scabilloni.

Investigators said Scabilloni, who worked for the contracting company Marsa Masonry, was hired to resurface the brick and mortar on the front of the building. Officials said the man was on the roof when he fell.

"I don't know if there were any problems with the roof, but they weren't hired to do roofing," McClellan said.

Police said Marsa has been on the job for a while, and the company was expected to finish the job this week.

"The company has been in the park working on different buildings for over a year," said McClellan.

Police said there was one other worker at the site, but the person didn't see Scabilloni fall. Law enforcement said a woman walking nearby saw him fall backward through the skylight.

KDKA's Amy Wadas reached out to Marsa. The company had no comment.

OSHA is also investigating. Investigations revealed Marsa had previous OSHA violations related to fall protection and ladder safety.
