As fall gives way to winter, it gets harder to find ways to spice up your wardrobe. You have to bundle up to keep warm but that doesn't mean you have to compromise style. Enter the best accessory for cold weather: the scarf. Loop it, wrap it, tie it, knot it. Do whatever your imagination can think up.

If you're looking for a little inspiration or maybe need a fresh idea for a hum-drum scarf from last winter, here are 5 fresh new ways to wear any scarf whether it's long, short, voluminous or skinny.

The Windsor:

Inspired by the way your grandpap ties his neck tie, this is the perfect way to show off a thin, silky scarf with a great pattern. This style can take a little practice if you don't know how to tie a tie in a Windsor knot but with a little tutorial from the guy in your life or the gentlemen who work in the suit department at Macy's, you can master this look. Key to success? Keep it looser than a necktie and just a little messy.

The Loop:

Easy as can be to achieve, The Loop is best worn with a shirt with a simple neck line. Simply drape the scarf around your neck with the ends in front of you. Tie the ends together to make a long loop. Turn it around so the small knot is at the base of your neck and voila! Instant glam. No need for a necklace or big earrings with this accessory. The Celtic Knot:

This styling is best for a cold day when your neck needs a little protection from the elements. Fold your scarf in half and drape it around your neck. A loop will be created by the fold. Pull the two loose ends completely through the loop, twist the loop once, and then pull the loose ends through the loop again. The result is a neat, braided appearance.
