2014 Pittsburgh Fall Theater Preview

Theater has always been celebrated in Pittsburgh and has taken an emerging force in the last 20 years to bring spectacular shows. This fall theater preview offers a variety of shows that allow the audience to get lost in the performance. Theater lovers and people new to the theater can escape their daily lives for a moment of song, dance, stories and dramas. Here is the 2014 Pittsburgh fall theater preview.

"The Book of Mormon"

"The Book of Mormon" is a Tony award-winning musical from the creators of "South Park," Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They created a Broadway musical about two completely opposite Mormon boys on a mission journeying from Salt Lake City to Uganda. It is filled with 19 original songs that range from a little risky to warm hearted about the journey of the mission. The run time is 2 hours and 30 minutes with one 15-minute intermission. The content has explicit language and sensitive themes so the target audience is 18 years of age and up.

You are never fully dressed without a smile! "Annie" made its Broadway premier in 1977 and is a favorite among children. From the Depression Era in New York City, orphan Annie is adopted by Daddy Warbucks for the holiday season. She wins his heart and teaches him about love, life and happiness. The play is suitable for all ages.

"Murder for Two"

The musical comedy "Murder for Two" is a 90-minute whodunit with two actors playing 13 roles. Everyone in the audience is a suspect for this murder mystery. A policeman with dreams of being a detective jumps at the chance to prove himself with aspirations of being a detective when he is at a birthday party where a famed novelist and his wife are murdered. The musical comedy promises laughs and a piano. He is on a time line to find the killer before the detective arrives.

"Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody"

"Spank!" is a musical parody of the risque novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" and is intended for mature audiences only.  The show runs two days and lasts 90 minutes with no intermission. The novel has topped "Harry Potter" as the fastest selling paperback of all time. Certain showings allow the audience to stay after and meet the cast with a photo opportunity with lead character Mr. Dangerous.

"Outside Mullingar" is a Broadway comedy from the Oscar and Tony award-winning author of "Doubt" and "Moonstruck." The setting is an Irish countryside and the two main characters are the widowed owner of a cattle farm, Tony, and his neighbor, Rosemary. Tony is struggling with leaving the cattle farm to his son or an American nephew. Rosemary offers a long-held family secret that impacts the decision.
