We're exactly halfway through the summer, and you've just panicked, realizing that you've likely squandered it on, well, not much. Get out and try some of these awesome family-friendly events that will bring the whole gang together for fun, giggles and a wonderful bonding experience.

There's simply no better family-friendly (and pet-friendly, too!) event in Pittsburgh, that's bigger, and more fun, than Weather Permitting. Hosted every Sunday at Shadyside Nursery, this music-and-food-packed gathering invites moms, dads, kids of all ages, grandparents and friends alike to dance, sip and play with water. Live musical acts jam, while rotating food trucks delight patrons with a bevy of delicious offerings. Beer flows, dogs happily romp and the kids can play in the sandbox, or twirl in the garden, while this four-hour experience hums along. Kids are granted free admission to this awesome event, and adults are $10.00.

It's summer — so get off your hiney, and get outside. Even though the this season has been proving rather rainy, your bikeriding experience can still be exhilarating. Grab the kids and your tandem bikes, and head out to a great event that will take bikers on tours and adventures all throughout Pittsburgh. Some include coffee, and nearly all are bike-or-trail-specific, such as mountain bike rides, or only city road rides.

This free, all-ages party combines live entertainment, games, and activities for kids, plus an under-the-Homestead-bridge cookout, and beer. Upcoming musical acts include Tres Lads, Bon Journey, and Biefermaker Jazz Band. The best party of this free event is the fun in Rock Bottoms beautiful biergarte, so grab the gang, your lederhosen, and get ready to boogie on down.

This admission-free, monthly concert series (held on Thursdays) is super fun for the whole family. Kicking off at 5:00 p.m., such acts will grace the stage as The Squirrel Hillbillies, Melinda, and the SSA Jazz Combo. Picnics are encouraged, and dancing shoes are a near requirement! The event is held rain or shine, but if there is inclement weather, be prepared to head into the gymnasium. The event, generously sponsored by the Hillman Center for the Performing Arts, is a wonderful way for local artists to gain recognition for their talents.

Running from June 7 - Aug. 30, be sure to check out the movie showtimes and locations to choose your favorite family-pleasing film, and head out with a delicious picnic basket full of snacks for a glorious night under the twinkling glow of Pittsburgh's beautiful skyline.
