If there is an opportunity to get together for a pick-up game or join a league, take a chance to sign up for some basketball action on the indoor courts around the Pittsburgh area. Bob Bechtold, Director of Outreach and Corporate Partnership, mentions there is available court time at the Sarah Heinz House in the mornings and during the lunch hours. Part of the program allowing you to play basketball includes a fitness membership that is $25/month, which includes use of the pool and fitness center. Each year there is a corporate basketball tournament, and there are 1000 youth participants in the after school program. The sports leagues, offered at an extra fee, takes advantage of the basketball court with a picturesque view of the city skyline, and Bob Bechtold notes that he doubts if there is a better view from any gym.

Don't be alarmed about not being a member to participate on the indoor basketball courts at JCC of Greater Pittsburgh, as the courts in Squirrel Hill and the South Hills have a policy in place to allow you to shoot some hoops. Roberta Mintz Levine, Division Director of Public Relations, Marketing and Communications, states there are guest passes available. With four courts in Squirrel Hill and two courts in the South Hills, there is ample space to hone your skills and join leagues, games and tournaments. There is an extra fee for the tournaments, league play and games that are hosted for youth, teens and adults. Roberta said the courts are newly renovated in the Squirrel Hill facility, and non-members are welcome all year.

If you're looking for indoor basketball facilities, then dribble, pass and launch some 3-pointers on over to Court Time Sports Center. There are three courts ready for pick-up games on Thursday evenings from 9-11 p.m., and the cost is $5 per player. The facility is privately owned, opening up an opportunity to test your skills during open gym time or to use the shooting gun on a rental basis. There are many sports programs, training, clinics, camps and rentals available for the entire family, and there are enough activities to exercise your brain and body.

The USC Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park is more than a community facility, and the program offerings include the entire Pittsburgh region. There is a sign-up disclosure to use the basketball courts and all other facilities. Ages two and over have a $12 guest fee for the two basketball courts, which have a divider to accommodate a shoot around or pick-up games. There is a schedule for Family Gym time on Fridays, 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.; Saturdays, noon - 2:00 p.m. and Sundays, 2:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. The basketball hoops are lowered to make it more appropriate for the children and still enough room for a pick-up game. There is an option to obtain a membership on an annual or three month basis.
