French style macaroons (sometimes spelled macaron) are a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. These beautiful sandwich cookies are painstakingly made from meringue and almond flour to produce a cookie with a delicate, perfectly mounded crust and rustic edges. Not long after he arrived in Pittsburgh, Fabier Moreau saw the need for a traditional French pastry shop in Pittsburgh and opened La Gourmandine Bakery. The bakery offers a wide variety of French style pastries and breads. The macarons aux framboises is a favorite on the pasty list. It is a large macaroon filled with lychee cream and fresh raspberries that is the perfect balance of sweet and tart.

Food Glorious Food is a small neighborhood bakery in Highland Park that is a favorite of locals. The bakery offers some fun macaroon options such as blue velvet, PB & J and salted caramel. All of their pastries are made from scratch. It is a great place to stop for macaroons and other wonderful pastries if you are in Pittsburgh’s east end.
