Pittsburgh has many tried and true venues where couples choose to tie the knot such as Phipps Conservatory, The Hyeholde and The Pennsylvanian. But there are also places off the beaten bridal path that offer the same unique and memorable experience sought after on that special day.

The Morning Glory Inn

2119 Sarah St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
412-431-6106

A cozy 1862 Victorian Townhouse, bed and breakfast on the South Side could be the perfect place to say, "I do." Pop City interviewed Innkeeper Dave Eshelman. He says that couples that choose to marry at their inn, "want elegance, but want it laid-back." The original brick courtyard lit with candles and lanterns is the central feature of any wedding here. Retractable roofs make the 'Burgh's unpredictable weather a non-issue, and most weddings are held spring to fall. Younger couples sometimes head to nearby Carson Street for their after-party. You will succumb to a wonderful blending of "old and new" that is cozy, comfortable and one block off "America's Longest Business Victorian National Historic District". Weddings at the Morning Glory have been voted "Best Wedding" by The Knot for the past four years.

Jay Verno Studio

3030 Jane St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
412-381-5350
www.jvevents.com

For brides who want a contemporary feel, Jay Verno Studio is a working photography studio on the South Side which offers a wow factor. Its two giant studios (5,000 square feet each) with soaring ceilings have areas that look like different rooms in a contemporary home. Of course the space is all about lighting—and the colors can change as the evening progresses. One bride called the space, "as versatile as it is impressive." She held her rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception there. A photographer shot a wedding at Jay Verno's Studio called it "young", and said "it's hip with a very non-traditional venue which gives it a fun feel and killer place to party!"

The Carnegie Science Center

1 Allegheny Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15121
412-237-3400
www.carnegiesciencecenter.org

For the more left-brained brides and grooms, Pop City suggests the Carnegie Science Center offers a wedding site fit for Mr.Spock. Science gurus in lab coats pump liquid nitrogen into cocktails transforming them into instant slushies. The Omnimax lobby offers spectacular city views for cocktails or dinner, and after-dinner activities can include anything from dancing in the fog-infused Works Theater to star gazing from the rooftop observatory (complete with an astronomer and a live feed from NASA). The Overlook Room makes the view of the Point, the three rivers, and the downtown skyline the centerpiece at every table for your reception. For the "earthy" brides and grooms out there, take advantage of the Science Center's Green Scene. Use one of their awesome spaces to serve organic beer, wine, and alcohol—and they'll serve the munchies on fully compostable serving ware.

New Hazlett Theatre

6 Alleghney Square
Pittsburgh, PA 15212
412-320-4610
www.newhazletttheater.org

If performing arts are more your passion, Pop City says the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side can stage a magical wedding. In keeping with the mission of this avant-garde theater, Operations Manager Alex Bard says any event serving alcohol must include a performance element. While this can be as simple as a singer or band, one of Bard's favorite performances was an aerialist who swooped into the crowd from between brightly colored banners and then performed mid-air acrobatics during dinner. The building offers two main event areas, a two-tier house with a spacious stage and a large lobby with a full service bar, and beautiful, modern decor. On-hand staff are ready to assist you in the production and planning of your event no matter what the type. And to complement your event, they offer the option for full production of audio and video material in house.

Fairmont Hotel

510 Market St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15222
412-773-8800
www.fairmont.com/pittsburgh

Pop City suggests modern brides who seek something new and classy should check out the new and modern Fairmont Hotel. With the theme 'Where Art Meets Industry', the hotel's edgy use of steel celebrates Pittsburgh's industrial heritage while the artwork celebrates local artists. An experienced, dedicated catering sales manager will coordinate every last detail, offering recommendations for flowers, entertainment and photographers that suit your unique style. An award-winning culinary team will ensure that the cuisine is perfectly delectable. And a banquet maître D will orchestrate the entire day, flawlessly bringing it all together. And to top it off, as a wedding gift, the Fairmont will apply five percent of the tab toward a honeymoon at any Fairmont hotel worldwide.
