A great way to celebrate summer and make a difference is to attend a local charity event. Pittsburgh offers a wealth of charity events this summer offering people a chance to enjoy an event and give back. Charity organizations offer a platform to distribute donated funds to people and causes that cannot afford them. From fashion shows and wine tasting to golfing and enjoying a walk in the park, here are some of the best upcoming summer charity events in Pittsburgh.

Enjoy an evening of wine tasting at the Rivertowne Brewing Hall of Fame Club at PNC Park where all proceeds will benefit the Heart Institute at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. From 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m., general admission ticket holders get to enjoy the event for $125. People purchasing VIP tickets for $175 have the club to themselves from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. This event is restricted to ages 21 and up.

Join Climbing Out of the Darkness 2014 for its second annual event "raising awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression (PPD), anxiety, OCD and psychosis" through walking or running in Schenley Park. Postpartum depression affects one in every seven woman. Vanessa Shaw and Sarah Brown are co-chairing this event at Schenley Park. Donations can be made by registering or using the crowd-funding website. This is one of several events around the United States, United Kingdom and Switzerland that is raising awareness for this cause. The event is open to all ages.

The Burns & Scalo Golf for Goodwill event proceeds support the Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The event is now in its 14th year and the day of fun includes golfing, fundraising, a silent auction and a dinner. Both the Pittsburgh Field Club and the Fox Chapel Golf Club will play host to this day in the sun and both courses are among Pittsburgh's best. The single golfer donation starts at $525 and even those who can't come out to play can donate or have their company sponsor a tee at the event.

The Fabulous Forties Gala and Fashion Show benefits the Homeless Children's Education Fund (HCEF) - a Pittsburgh-based non-profit started in 1999 that raises awareness of homeless children and provides them with valuable success tools such as learning centers and libraries within homeless shelters. Doors open at 6 p.m for VIP attendees for dinner in the Sky Lounge. The Gala and Fashion Show starts at 7:30 p.m. with music featuring The Boilermakers Jazz Band. The event invites attendees to dress in their best Hollywood glam and prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed male, female, couple and group.
