"Fiddler" is the story of a Jewish family making their way through the world while trying to hold onto their cultural heritage and also trying to keep up with a world that is modernizing in front of their eyes. A lesser-known but truly fabulous venue in the Cultural District is the Cabaret at Theater Square, where "Girls Only" is being performed. It is a two-woman show about the joys and awkwardness of being a girl. The show is a mix of comedic improv, music and audience participation. The fun twist is that this show isn't just your typical "sit in your seat and watch" kind of performance. Your theatre ticket is also actually a reservation to the Cabaret at Theater Square's lunch or dinner service. Head down to the venue about an hour and a half before curtain time to have a great meal that will prime you for this comedy show. "Girls Only" has tons of performance dates from now until September so if you're looking for a unique girls night out, consider this show.

"The Addams Family" is a familiar tale of the freaky family everyone knows and loves. This show is a musical comedy that focuses on Wednesday Addams as she terrorizes her family with her relationship with her normal, very un-Addams family-esque boyfriend. The show is one of the Civic Light Operas PNC Broadway Across America shows that brings Broadway to Pittsburgh. Take the family to the Benedum for this family-friendly family story. This family of monsters may not be too different from yours.

Who says every performance in a theater has to be a play or a musical? The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust regularly brings comedians to Pittsburgh and this August 18th, it's bringing us Jim Gaffigan. Dates: Thursdays through August 30
"Pittsburgh Improv Jam" is a theatre performance that forces you out of your comfort zone and maybe your seat too. You could find yourself on stage during one of the jams. Performers ask for audience participation and ideas for their improv sets. A mash-up of an open-mic night and a stand-up comedy show, "Improv Jam" has the goal to get theatre goers literally involved in the arts. Word has it that you can talk to the performers after the show about becoming a performer yourself, if you're willing to buy them a beer. Note that theatre goers must be 21 and over to attend this performance. The event is held every Thursday between now and August 30 at 10 p.m. Show up early to have a late night happy hour at the Backstage Bar in Cabaret Square before the performance starts. Tickets are available only at the host desk at Theater Square on the night of the event for a mere $3 cover charge.
