Free and Affordable Pittsburgh for 1/19: Downtown on a Dime

Okay, so all the holiday fun has ended, but that doesn't mean you have to slow down! On this week's Free & Affordable Pittsburgh segment on Pittsburgh Today Live, we're talking about some fabulously fun & affordable things you can do Downtown on a dime, including free Salsa dancing lessons, live jazz, tunes with networking and more! Learn a bit more about each of the things mentioned on this week's show!

Salsa Mondays at Seviche

Monday evenings

Have you ever wanted to learn Salsa dancing? Now that the cold Pittsburgh winter is setting in, why not try this red-hot dance! Seviche offers a free Salsa dancing lesson care of Salsa Pittsburgh on Monday nights at 9pm. The Latin tapas bar sets the mood. Lessons usually last from 30 minutes to an hour, but the dancing and music continues afterward until 2am.

JazzLive at the Backstage Bar

Every Tuesday, BNY Mellon sponsors a FREE Jazz concert at the Backstage Bar. During warmer months, the concert is held outdoors on Katz Plaza. This Tuesday at 5, enjoy music by home grown national jazz keyboardist, composer and producer Max Leake, who has been recording, composing, arranging and performing for 27 years with jazz greats like Roger Humphries, Dwayne Dolphin, Jo Negri, Al Dowe, Etta Cox and others. Jazz musician, composer and historian Nelson Harrison goes on at 8, and has composed more than 400 original compositions, including movie scores and soundtracks. He also invented the instrument, the Trombetto!

Entrepreneurial Thursdays

The entrepreneurial spirit in Pittsburgh abounds, and this particular weekly event brings together entrepreneurs, financing sources, community leaders, and other business owners in a fun, relaxed environment. It's a Jazz & Blues happy hour show for the business community. Next Thursday, it's all about collaboration among community development groups. Doors open at 5:30, first set of live music & networking is from 6 to 6:40, open-mic interviews with featured panelists are from 6:40 until 7, and then enjoy a second set of live music and networking from 7 to 8.
