In Western Pennsylvania, farmers' markets abound throughout the summer. Local farms grow and sell fresh corn, cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, squash and other summer favorites that make fresh cooking and healthy eating easy. Last summer's Guide To Pittsburgh Farmer's Markets brought you just some of the local area farmers markets. Here are some additional places to pick up fresh and tasty late summer produce in the Pittsburgh area.

Open each Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Main Street Farmers Market is located on Main Street in Washington. The market features fresh produce from local farms as well as fresh-baked goods, honey, wine and herbs. You can buy fresh produce, enjoy freshly made lunch and hear local entertainment while shopping. Produce from Simon's Farms, Vistamount Farms and Zrimm's Farm are just some of the great products you can find at this market.

If you work downtown and would like to pick up some fresh produce on your lunch break, the Market Square Farmers Market is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. It is open each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until November 8th. At this farmers market, you can enjoy a cooked meal while shopping for fresh tomatoes, corn, potatoes, cucumbers and other favorites. Located at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland, Farmers at Phipps is open Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. until October. Among the beautiful gardens at Phipps Conservatory, you can buy fresh lettuce, berries, melons and squash form local farmers. Farmers at Phipps concentrate on offering organically grown produce. You can meet and speak with the local farmers to talk about their sustainable farming practices. Among the vendors for this year's market are Pancake Tree Farms, Blackberry Meadows Farm and Sonshine Family Farm.

Located at Monroeville Community Park, the Monroeville Lions Farmers Market is open each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Shop for fresh cherries, peaches, plums, corn and cauliflower. The market features produce from Harvest Valley Farms and JJ McKinney Farm as well as baked goods from Craig's Bakery and Wood Street Bread Company.

The large farm grounds host summer and fall festivals and offer fun family entertainment each weekend.
