Pirates Interview Macha & Banister For Manager

PITTSBURGH (AP) Former Brewers manager Ken Macha and Jeff Banister have interviewed as the Pittsburgh Pirates search for their next manager.

Macha, a Pittsburgh-area native, was fired this month after going 157-167 in two seasons with Milwaukee. He had a 368-280 record from 2003-06 with Oakland, where his clubs won the AL West in 2003 and 2006. He was passed over for the Pirates' job several times previously, including after the 2000 season.

Banister has been in the Pirates' organization for 25 years as a player, minor league manager and major league and minor league field coordinator. He finished this season as the Pirates bench coach after Gary Varsho was fired.

The Pirates previously interviewed former major league managers John Gibbons and Eric Wedge and former Arizona coach Bo Porter.
