Wannstedt Unlikely To Coach Pitt In Bowl Game

Pitt Football Beat Writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Paul Zeise joined Seibel and Starkey on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN to discuss whether or not Dave Wannstedt will coach the Panthers in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

Paul said from what he has been hearing, it doesn't sound like Wannstedt will be coaching the team, but he's still working to get that information confirmed, and if it's true, Phil Bennett would be the leading candidate to take over for the Bowl game.

If it was just coaching the game, Paul thinks Wannstedt would do it, but it's all of the other stuff like press conferences and luncheons that will most likely turn him off from the idea of coaching this one last game.

Paul also talked with the guys about whether or not some of Wannstedt's assistants interviewed for positions under new Head Coach Mike Haywood, and if they actually felt as though they'd have a chance at being retained.  According to Paul, it is unlikely that any members of Wannstedt's staff will remain, and it's his understanding that both Haywood's offensive and defensive coordinators at Miami of Ohio will be coming with him.
