Take It Easy... It's Just One Game

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Well it looks like the Pirates rained on everyone's opening day parade just a little bit. They lost to the Rockies 7-1 and frankly didn't look so good doing it. They managed just 4 hits and looked rough out in the field, committing 2 errors. Andrew McCutchen told me after the game that guys might have been a bit amped up… especially guys who were going through their first home opener.

No harm, no foul… We will get to see a bit of how this team has developed Friday in game two of the series, when the routine of a long baseball season gets back to what it is: cage work at 2:30 p.m., batting practice at 3:30 p.m., in between start throw days for the pitchers and maybe half the people in the ballpark.

How will they bounce back from easily their worst game of the season? Will they let the mistakes eat at them? Or will the skipper do what he seems to have done well so far: lead them in leaving what happened Thursday behind and look at what is there for the taking on Friday (another win).

That's what is going to show me more than anything else if this team is different than last year's 57 game winners. Right now you want to think it is but after 18 years of losing baseball there is still a lot of convincing to be done. That's ok… they have a long hot summer to win a city and its fans back.
