Van Crashes Into Castle Shannon House, Driver Leaves Scene

CASTLE SHANNON (KDKA) -- The driver of a work van left the scene after crashing into a home in Castle Shannon Friday evening, according to witnesses.

Police say the van went off Newport Drive, sheared off a utility pole and then smashed into the living room of a man 's home. The front wall made of bricks was pushed in and the front window smashed.

The man who lives there was at home at the time, but fortunately, he was in the basement and not injured. He was too shaken up to talk to reporters.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom when the crash happened. "I was like 'Oh my God!' I can't believe it. It was like I was watching something on TV because I just couldn't even imagine something like that could possibly happen," said neighbor Christine Richards.

Another neighbor reports seeing a man she believed to be the driver "nonchalantly" walk away from the scene.

Police are not releasing the name of the van's owner, but would like to find the driver to see if he's hurt and to talk to him. They say he could face a charge of leaving the scene.
