McKeesport Shooting Kills 1

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) –Police are investigating an early Monday morning fatal shooting in McKeesport.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 1400-block of Versailles Avenue around 1:45 a.m.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Travis Rhone. He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he died.

The shooting happened just two blocks from his home. His family is now dealing with the loss.

"I miss my son. It didn't hit me until I got back here. I felt his head, felt his body. It was cold, his head was cold. All I could do was rub his curly hair," Art Rhone said.

Travis was shot in the back and died within an hour. A motive for the shooting has not been determined.

"He wasn't the best kid in the world. He had his faults, but whatever he did, it didn't deserve a death sentence," Art Rhone said.

A woman tried to comfort Travis, a father of two, in the moments after the shooting.

"He was bleeding profusely and he just looked at me and closed his eyes," she said.

"All they want to do is kill each other, make it so permanent. You hurt my family, you hurt your family if you get caught. I could go out there and try to revenge what you all did to my son, but he's not going to get back up and talk to me. He's gone. My son is gone," Art Rhone said.

Two weeks ago, someone fired 17 shots into Rhone's house and he plans on moving the family out of McKeesport.

No arrests have been made at this time.
