Etna Man Arrested, Charged With Sexually Molesting 2 Boys

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Allegheny County police say they have arrested a former teacher accused in the sexual molestation of two teenage boys.

According to Allegheny County police, the investigation started in Adams County around the area of Cumberland, Pa.

Investigators say Chad Starner was arrested there and charged with molesting a 15-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy. That investigation led them to the local suspect.

John Curtioff, 61, of Etna, was arrested Thursday night. No one answered the door of his Vista Street home. A boat was parked on the lawn.

"It's strange – you never know what's going on right around you," Richard Goston, a neighbor, said.

Police say Curtioff is a former teacher in the Upper Adams School District in central Pennsylvania. He hasn't taught there since 2000, but was volunteering as a boating safety instructor locally.

Authorities report that Starner, who was arrested in Adams County, knew Curtioff. Starner is said to have brought the teens to Etna.

"Curtioff volunteers for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and has taught classes of boater safety," said Lt. Jeff Korczyk, of the Allegheny County Police.

"Part of the allure that he has with these adolescent males is that he has a boat and he would get them on the boat, provide them with alcohol, and then take advantage of the kids sexually."

County police say the arrest of Curtioff was made now because they had information that he was planning to take trips to Canada.
