Argument Preceded Fatal Shooting In Masontown

MASONTOWN (KDKA) -- Police in Fayette County are investigating a fatal shooting in Masontown.

It happened just before 9:55 p.m. Monday on Spring Lane.

The victim, 34-year-old Leon Mickens, was walking with a man on a bike when the two got into an argument.

No one knows what the argument was about, but Mickens was shot twice. One shot struck him in the face, the other in the back of his right shoulder.

Long-time friend Alice Fletcher, who also works as a nurse's aide, heard the shots and rushed outside to help.

Mickens would have celebrated his 35th birthday Tuesday, but instead his family is planning a funeral.

They say the father of two had just been hired for a new job and was in the process of turning his life around.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Police are following up on numerous leads. They have a person they would like to talk to who they believe has a good bit of information about the case, but have not been able to locate that person.

If you have any information you believe may help with the investigation, you should contact the Masontown Police Station or Fayette County 911.
