Bomb Squad Called After Man Finds Grenade In Bethel Park
BETHEL PARK (KDKA) – A man made a potentially explosive discovery in Bethel Park.
George Koller found the shell of a grenade in a field near the intersection of Broughton and Baptist Roads around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Koller was cutting the grass on his riding mower when he noticed the strange object. He decided to get a closer look.
"… I picked it up and looked and I said, 'Oh my goodness!' and set it back down and left," he said.
He called police who immediately notified the Allegheny County Bomb Squad.
"It looked like it could have been there for a while, but when you have something that looks like a hand grenade or any other kind of explosive device, we typically don't mess with it and always call the bomb squad," Bethel Park Police Officer Eric Anibaldi said.
The bomb squad discovered it harmless. It was described as an inert training grenade, but no one knows how it got there.
