Recent Rain Causing New Flooding Concerns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Following Tuesday night's meeting on flooding concerns, there are some new worries today over the recent wet weather.

Authorities have shut down part of Becks Run Road between Agnew Road and Wagner Street in Carrick because of downed power lines and wires.

Pittsburgh police say the stretch could be closed until 2 p.m.

Also, the Mon Wharf parking lot in downtown Pittsburgh has also been closed due to flooding concerns.

On Tuesday night, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced a three-stage plan to help deal with the potential for flooding on Washington Boulevard in Highland Park. Four people died there during a flash flood in August.

The details of the plan include safety crews on site whenever there is a threat for serious flooding, the possible installation of crossing gates, and engineers looking at storm water runoff plans.

Members of the community also had the chance to discuss their concerns, including the importance of sewage and storm water drainage.

City Councilman Bill Peduto organized the meeting and Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority representatives were also on hand.
