PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Craig McConnell, the coordinating producer for WPIAL football coverage on ROOT Sports, joined 93.7 The Fan’s John Phillips for his weekly spot to discuss–what else?–a historic night for Rushel Shell, and some other notes from Friday’s various Week 4 games.

Craig talks about the significance of what Shell has accomplished now that the Hopewell tailback is the WPIAL’s all-time rushing leader, and weighs it against Mike Vernillo’s run to the same record back in 1999. He examines how much further up the PIAA career rushing ladder Shell can realistically climb, and sees some signs that Shell will end up at Pitt.

In addition, Craig breaks down the early success of top-ranked Pittsburgh Central Catholic in Quad-A, and whether its star tailback, Damion Jones-Moore, will soon command more Division I attention.

“McDonald’s High School Football” will return to ROOT Sports next Friday when Belle Vernon visits Chartiers Valley in Class AAA Big Eight Conference play at 7:30.
