7th Grader Injured During Football Game

SAXONBURG (KDKA) -- A seventh grader from Freeport Middle School was knocked unconscious and later flown to the hospital during a game against Knoch early Thursday night.

Knoch Athletic Director Josh Shoop told KDKA's Kym Gable the 12-year-old boy is a tight end. After a play, they noticed he was on the ground and not moving.

Trainers and EMTs worked on the boy. An ambulance later rushed him to a waiting helicopter.

KDKA's Kym Gable reports:

"He was a tight end on the left side and the play came to the left side, and the play went about 10 yards beyond him," Shoop said. "After the play was over we noticed the young man was on his back and not moving."

Shoop says he was told the boy was flown to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. He eventually regained consciousness and was talking to paramedics.

His condition is not known.
