Castle Shannon Armed Robbery Suspect Sought

CASTLE SHANNON (KDKA) – Police continue their search for a suspect in connection with an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Castle Shannon on Sunday morning.

According to emergency officials, the robbery happened at the Lebanon Shops Pharmacy in the 300-block of Mount Lebanon Boulevard around 10 a.m.

The suspect allegedly used a weapon to hold up the business.

The pharmacist did not want to be identified.

"A gentleman came back - he had a covering over his head and was wearing sunglasses - and he came back and showed a gun and said he was here for drugs and was not kidding," the pharmacist said.

Police from Castle Shannon and surrounding communities were called in to help look for the suspect.

"Took an undetermined amount of narcotics and then escorted the two employees into the back hallway of the business. When they turned around, he was gone," said Chief Ken Truver, of the Castle Shannon Police Department.

The suspect is being described as a white male wearing a black jacket and orange tennis shoes. He is believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30.

"If anybody saw anything, witnesses, this was a white male, white and orange sneakers, blue jeans, tall and thin," Chief Truver said. "He had a gray tee-shirt over his head."

Fortunately, no one was hurt but this is not the first time the Lebanon Shops Pharmacy has been hit by thieves looking for drugs. Officials say about a month ago someone broke into the business and stole a large quantity of narcotics.

Castle Shannon police are asking anyone who saw anything or who knows about the robbery to give them a call.

Meanwhile, the pharmacy plans to improve security, starting with new video surveillance cameras inside the business.
