MLB Analyst Breaks Down Pirates Off-Season

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Fifteen year MLB general manager Jim Bowden joined Bob Pompeani on Saturday on 93-7 The Fan to talk about all things baseball.

Bob started off by asking Bowden about the Florida Marlins and their offers to guys like Albert Pujols and Jose Reyes. He breaks down the seriousness of the offers and whether or not a deal will be done.

As for the Pirates, Bowden thinks that the Bucs should be open to trading guys like Joel Hanrahan because they will be waiting a few more years for all of their pitching prospects to develop. He is also impressed by the young talent that the Pirates have been drafting not only in the pitching department, but also in the lineup with a guy like Josh Bell.

The Pirates actually have some depth in the organization, however, their future depends on whether or not they can sign Andrew McCutchen to a long-term extension.

Pedro Alvarez is off to a slow start in his career, but Bowden thinks that he will end up being the guy that the Pirates drafted him to be. Bowden is still very impressed with him, and thinks that Alvarez will be a late-bloomer, and will win a Silver Slugger Award someday.
