Authorities Call Fayette Co. Road Steep & Dangerous After Crash

CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) -- Authorities who were on the scene of tractor-trailer accident in Fayette County that damaged two homes and sent one man to the hospital Monday say the stretch of road where it happened has been the site of numerous accidents.

The tractor-trailer went out of control late Monday afternoon, hitting four cars and two homes on Route 711 in Connellsville.

Connellsville Assistant Fire Chief Rob Lieberger called the stretch of roadway steep and very dangerous.

"It's very steep, treacherous," said Assistant Fire Chief Lieberger. "It seems like every time we get one of these, it's somebody from out of town."

The 18-wheeler flipped on its side and skidded about 50 yards before it smashed into the homes.

There is no word on the driver's condition, but officials said Monday he was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say this is at least the third time a vehicle has slammed into one of the houses along the stretch.
