Collapsed Canopy A Close Call For 2 Teens
FORD CITY (KDKA) -- Two teenagers had a close call when wind blew over the canopy of the Sheetz convenience store in Ford City, Armstrong County, Friday afternoon.
The teens had just gotten gas and were about to drive away when a big gust of wind knocked the canopy down on top of their SUV, according to Sheetz District Manager Gina Hazelet.
Hazelet says they lost power in the store right before the canopy collapsed.
The teens were in the front seats and had to climb out of one side of the vehicle, according to Sheetz Store Manager Cory Visneksy.
"Where they were in the car was actually an act of God, too," said Hazelet, referring to how they might have been injured if seated elsewhere.
People from neighboring businesses came running across the street to see if they could help.
The Sheetz store closed after the accident and will remain that way until a crane can be used to clear the canopy away and make the area safe.
