Police Investigate Scrap Metal Theft At Union Twp. Business

UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The Southwest Regional Police Department says they are investigating the theft of scrap metal from a local contracting company.

Police say the incident happened just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday at DiLiscia's Stone Contracting located along Route 837.

According to police, a passing driver reported spotting a black Dodge pickup truck there taking scrap metal and other various items.

The vehicle was gone when police arrived at the scene.

Police say the owner of the business has turned over surveillance footage for further investigation.

Among the items taken was an antique tractor Nick DiLiscia planned to restore.

"They're getting a few dollars for something that [is] either irreplaceable or very hard to come by and it just doesn't seem worth it," he said. "I just don't understand why they're doing those things."

There was no fence.

"Just because it's on your property doesn't mean it's protected and what you may think might not be stolen, clearly you can see here that it appears to be scrap metal, they came on the property and stole it," Southwest Regional Police Chief John Hartman said.

"Literally, if it's something of value and can be moved, we find that it is," he added.

Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact the Southwest Regional Police Department at 724-929-8484.
