Witness Recalls Ex-Highmark CEO's Confrontation In Oakmont

OAKMONT (KDKA) -- For the first time, we're hearing from a woman who says she witnessed part of the confrontation that lead to charges against former Highmark CEO Ken Melani.

Vida Chieffo lives near the townhouse in Oakmont where Melani allegedly barged in, according to police papers.

The papers indicate that Melani's mistress, Melissa Myler had gone back to the home to talk with her husband Mark.

"They were loud," said Chieffo. "They were both loud. They were screaming at each other!"

Chieffo says she was leaving her home to go to the store when she saw two men run across the parking area.

"One man pushed the other man into the door. He got up holding his face. I assumed he was hurt."

Melani is charged with simple assault and defiant trespass, which are both misdemeanors.

He allegedly accused Myler of cheating.

"I was shocked. I didn't know what was going on," said Chieffo. "I heard one of them saying, 'She pursued me. I didn't pursue her.'"

Chieffo told her grandson to call police and calls the whole thing sad.

"I was just in shock. Nothing like that happens around here."

A week after the incident and a few days after charges were filed, Melani was fired during a Sunday morning meeting of the Highmark board.
