Man Charged In Robbery Near Uniontown Public Library

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Police arrested a man following a robbery outside of a local library.

Authorities rushed to an area near the Uniontown Public Library at about 2:30 a.m. Friday after a woman made a frantic 911 call saying that she was being robbed.

"They said that they could hear in the background a male demanding money," Uniontown Police Patrolman Thomas Kolencik said.

The man was identified as 55-year-old Vincent Wallace, of Alison. Police say he was in a car with 43-year-old Karen Boyd and her friend, Audra Trombetta when he suddenly became angry and began hitting Boyd repeatedly.

He took her keys and left – then came back and took her cell phone after hearing her call for help.

"She was lucky she called 911," Kolencik said. "Our officer responded quick and did a real good job of coming to her aid and then also apprehending the suspect."

Police arrested Wallace on the 10th floor of the nearby Marshall Manor apartment building. He is now in the Fayette County Jail facing robbery, simple assault and related charges.
