Tax Help With Rick Applegate Of First Commonwealth Advisors
Consider filing electronically: a program called Free File is a partnership between the IRS and about 15 private tax preparation companies. Each company has different criteria for who they work with under their program so check online at irs.gov/freefile.
Several tax software companies (Turbo Tax, H&R Block and TaxAct's Free Edition) offer online tax preparation and e-filing for simple returns.
Many senior citizens, military members and low income taxpayers can receive free tax preparation right in their area at a Volunteer Tax Assistance site. The volunteers will help you prepare your return and file it electronically. Call 800-906-9887 to locate a center near you.
For low and middle income tax filers over the age of 60, AARP may offer a Tax-Aide Site near you. Call 888-227-7669 or go online to www.aarp.org/money/taxes/aarp_taxaide to locate a center.
