Suspect In Fatal Kennedy Twp. Shooting Apologizes

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – One person has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Kennedy Township Monday night.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 5000-block of Julia Lane around 8 p.m.

Jordan Coyner, 20, was shot in the head inside his parents' home. Police have arrested Devele Reid, 22, of Swissvale, in connection with the shooting.

"He goes into the home, an altercation ensues," Allegheny County Police Supt. Charles Moffatt said. "It's our belief that he attempted at this time to rob the victim."

Reid apologized and says the shooting was an accident.

"And I apologize for the loss and now … just got to do what I got to do," he said. "I did my crime, I got to do my time. I just hope the best and I pray for my victims and [their] families."

Police believe Coyner was selling marijuana out of the home and they recovered about a pound of it in the basement. Reid allegedly shot Coyner in the process of trying to rob him of marijuana.

"We believe he went there, he had the intention that he wasn't going to buy the marijuana, he was going to take it. He then runs from the home with a small bag of marijuana, jumps in the vehicle, discarding his clothing and a cell phone along the way," Allegheny County Police Supt. Charles Moffatt said.

Police found discarded clothing and a cell phone which helped lead detectives to the Swissvale area.

Reid fled the scene in a maroon Chevrolet Monte Carlo with four juveniles inside.

"It was an accident," he said. "It wasn't like I meant to shoot him or nothing."

Police have located the four juveniles and will confer with the district attorney to determine if charges will be filed.
