Bucs: Pirates Claim Sutton, Call Up Morris

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates made several roster moves Sunday, claiming Drew Sutton off waivers and recalling pitcher Bryan Morris from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Sutton, 29, is an infielder and was waived by the Tampa Bay Rays. He has played in just 18 games this season, batting. 271 with four doubles and six RBIs.

Sutton has a career .261 batting average in four major league seasons.

Morris will join the bullpen in Pittsburgh. He is 1-2 with a 2.28 ERA in 43 1/3 innings in Triple-A ball.

In order to make room for both Sutton and Morris, the Pirates placed Charlie Morton (Tommy John surgery) on the 60-day disabled list and infielder Jordy Mercer was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
