No Parise, No Suter, Now What?

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) Post-Gazette Empty Netters blogger Seth Rorabaugh joined the guys on The Fan Morning Show to discuss the Pens' options now after being unable to land either Zach Parise or Ryan Suter, who both signed with the Minnesota Wild.

Rorabaugh says there are a couple of wing options left in free agency, but if they want to make a big splash it will have to come from a trade.

He said he spoke with Pens Asst. GM Jason Botterill after the NHL Draft, and Botterill said that the Pens have stockpiled good young defensemen for this very reason- to have assets to move to bring in a winger.

The Pens have some talent to offer in Joe Morrow and Simon Despres, but would it be enough to get Rick Nash or Bobby Ryan?

"I wouldn't put it past Ray Shero to find a way to make this happen," Rorabaugh said.

He confirms that the Pens would have very little interest in Alexander Semin, and he believes that Semin would be a poor fit here.

Seth says the Pens still need to fix what caused the early exit from the playoffs on defense, but getting Brandon Sutter in the Jordan Staal trade will be a huge help there.

He said it will be interesting to see where the Pens go from here, but he would expect Shero to be active.
