PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It was a special night at PNC Park Saturday as Pittsburgh Pirates’ legend Willie Stargell was honored.

The Willie Stargell Forever Stamp was unveiled for fans during a pregame ceremony.

The United States Postal Service based the honor on Stargell’s ability to promote harmony among players of different backgrounds.

Stargell’s family was on hand for celebration.

“I just am so proud that he has been able to receive this honor,” his widow said.

The Stargell stamp was first unveiled Friday at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
