'Walk On Wednesday': Pirates Might Be 'Trying A Little Too Hard'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the guys on The Fan Morning Show for his weekly spot "Walk on Wednesday" following a big 6-2 win over the Astros.

Bob said that Wandy Rodriguez finally seems to have his best stuff back, even though it took the southpaw a few starts to adjust. He attributed that to "a little case of nerves."

He also offered a very interesting explanation for why recent infield call-up Brock Holt, who went 4-for-5 last night, might be difficult for pitchers to scout even now that they'll have more tape to work with.

He doesn't expect Holt to move to shortstop once Neil Walker returns, though he thinks Holt may have the tools to play the position despite his unfamiliarity with it.

He felt that Andrew McCutchen getting back in a groove would be huge for the Pirates down the stretch, given that McCutchen has proven that he can almost singlehandedly carry the team.

Finally, he explained that many of the Pirates' recent woes can probably be attributed to overextending themselves and trying to play above the level they're capable of playing at.
