Steelers Sign WR Burress, QB Hoyer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed two players in the wake of several injuries suffered over the past two weeks.

According to a press release from the team, the Steelers have signed wide receiver Plaxico Burress and quarterback Brian Hoyer to one-year deals.

Burress was drafted eighth overall by the Steelers in 2000 and played with the team from 2000-04. In his career, Burress has 550 receptions for 8,457 yards and 63 touchdowns.

He will wear No. 80 for the Steelers.

Hoyer was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New England Patriots out of Michigan State University. He appeared in 13 games for the Patriots from 2009-11.

For his career, he has completed 27 of his 43 passes for 286 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He will wear No. 3.

Financial terms of the deals have not been released.

To make room for them, the Steelers have released running back Baron Batch and linebacker Marshall McFadden.
