Man Found Shot To Death In Monessen

MONESSEN (KDKA) - Monessen Police are investigating the shooting death of 36-year-old Chris Fincik. Police say he was found shot to death inside his home on Maple Avenue after midnight Monday.

Westmoreland County Detectives are now assisting in the investigation. Very few details were released Monday morning.

Fincik was pronounced dead at the scene just before 4 a.m.

KDKA was on the scene as evidence was collected, including the back door from the home, which was damaged. Police would not provide information as to why they removed the door. Neighbors, meanwhile, say they heard several gunshots.

According to neighbors, Fincik owned a tree removal business and had a teenage daughter, who did not live with him.

"This is terrible. It's just something we just truly didn't expect," said neighbor and friend Aaron Payne.

Shawane Frost told KDKA, "He was a good person. We grew up together. We all live in Monessen. It's a small community, everybody knows everybody. And it's just a shock to hear that this happened in your own backyard."

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon. Police could not release information on where Fincik was shot or how many times, until the autopsy was complete.

According to court documents, Chris Fincik was awaiting a trial, scheduled for January, on drug related charges. Fincik was out on bond, according to those same court records.

No arrests have been made.
