Port Authority Buses Filled With Toys

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Port Authority buses seemed more like Santa's sleigh when they were used to collect toy donations Thursday.

Thursday night, union workers collected toy donations on the South Side, filling up port authority buses.

They toys will be donated to children whose parents are unemployed.

"We are a part of the community and we're going to make sure that all boys and girls have a good Christmas and all families have a good Christmas," Joseph Delale with AFLCIO said.

More than 100 trucks were also collected for the "Trucks for Maddox" campaign.

The campaign was created in memory of 2-year-old Maddox Derkosh, who was killed Nov. 4 when he fell into an exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.

Derkosh loved trucks and groups have been collecting toy truck donations since his death more than a month ago.

The donations will be passed out today to local families, with more than a dozen agencies helping with distribution.
