PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local soldier got a moving sendoff Sunday before heading to Afghanistan.

Fire trucks, ambulances and even medical helicopters lined Routes 119 and 22 in Westmoreland County.

Family and friends were also in attendance with farewell wishes for Sgt. Samantha Malik.

She was visibly overcome with emotion during the sendoff.

“This is the most overwhelming thing I could ever imagine and I appreciate it more than anything,” Malik said. “I love you all.”

Malik says she will be flying helicopter missions during her deployment.
