PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The United States premiere of the made-in-Pittsburgh thriller, “Jack Reacher,” starring Tom Cruise is this Saturday at the Southside Works.

The movie is already getting rave reviews for Pittsburgh as a filmmaking venue.

“It’s a beautiful city to photograph,” Sam Hutchins, the film’s New York-based location manager, said. “With the mountains and the hills and the valleys, the old industry and some great architecture, it really presented itself beautifully in photographic terms.”

Hutchins has worked on dozens of major films including “National Treasure,” “Phone Booth” and “Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”

“I’ve worked all over the country,” Hutchins said. “This is what I do. And I have to say Pittsburgh was probably the most film-friendly city I have ever had the pleasure to work in.”

Jack Reacher has been described as a hybrid of Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer and is the main character is a series of novels by author Lee Child.

“Jack Reacher” opens nationwide on Dec. 21.
