Giant Eagle Nixes Foodperks Program

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The food and gas retailer Giant Eagle will no longer offer its foodperks program to customers after Feb. 13.

The ending of the program comes as the company is now offering a 3-cent per gallon discount anytime customers swipe their Giant Eagle Advantage cards at GetGo gas stations.

Foodperks allowed GetGo customers to get discounts on food at Giant Eagle.

"Fuelperks! has long been one of the most popular and rewarding ways for GetGo customers to save on the cost of fuel, but our customers often choose to save and accumulate their rewards for a larger discount," said Giant Eagle Senior Director of Corporate Communications Rob Borella in a statement Sunday. "Our new 3 cents discount program provides four million Giant Eagle Advantage Card holders with yet another easy, and instant, way to save on the cost of fuel."

Giant Eagle says customers can choose to either use fuelperks or the new 3-cent discount.

Although the foodperks program is ending, Giant Eagle says it will still honor perks earned through Feb. 13.

However, they will not be honored passed their expiration date of May 31, 2013.
