Police Chief In Controversial Facebook Photo Reinstated

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The local police chief in Somerset County who resigned after a controversial photo of him surfaced on Facebook has been reinstated.

Confluence Police Chief Tom Keller resigned at the end of February when a photo of him with a woman brandishing firearms appeared online.

But a township official said Friday that Keller had been re-instated and that Mayor Allen Gyorko has also resigned.

It is unclear why Gyorko has resigned.

Keller has been with the police department for a dozen years – half of them as chief.

"I know that's what hurts the community," Gyorko said. "We're a little distraught about it."

After the photo surfaced last month, Keller told KDKA at the time that he had filed a complaint with state police and that someone had hacked his Facebook page, which was supposed to be private.

He said a hacker was trying to embarrass him.

Gyorko said at the time, "In the winter, people get a little, what you call, cabin fever, you know. And they do goofy things."

One resident called it "embarrassing."

Stay with KDKA for more information.
