Man In Custody After SWAT Situation, Fatal Shooting In Munhall

MUNHALL (KDKA) – Neighbors say they always felt it would come to this.

Allegheny County Police say sometime on Wednesday night 41-year-old Anthony Scholl allegedly shot and killed his 74-year-old mother, Bernadette Scholl.

Scholl lived with his mother and his sister in the Munhall Homestead Housing Association plan in Munhall.

The shooting happened on Longfellow Drive.

Police say Scholl called another sister, telling her he had shot and killed their mother.

This morning, the road leading to the plan was closed to traffic as emergency crews made their way through, including the Allegheny County SWAT Team.

Police say there was no dispute last night and don't know what prompted Scholl to shoot his mother.

The victim's close friend and neighbor, Judy Joyner, says Scholl has mental issues and had been released from prison about a year ago for shooting and wounding his wife.

She openly sobbed as she told KDKA's Brenda Waters that she warned Bernadette not to allow her son to move in.

"We knew he was going to do something. We knew it," the neighbor said.

Scholl had barricaded himself inside the house. Police had to Taser him before he would surrender.
