State Police: Person Who Illegally Dumped Tires Will Face Littering Charge

DUNBAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State police are investigating who illegally dumped hundreds of tires on a Fayette County road.

It happened about two weeks ago on Balaban Road in Dunbar Township.

Township Supervisor John Tabaj was out doing his morning patrol when he came upon the mountain of tires.

He says there were about 500 of them completely blocking the road.

It took a crew three days and eight trips to the landfill to clean up the mess.

Tabaj believes someone is collecting money to take tires from local auto shops to the landfill, but is instead dumping the tires illegally and pocketing the extra cash.

State police will charge the person dumping the tires with littering.

They have also asked the Department of Environmental Protection and Attorney General's Office to get involved so that more serious charges can be filed.

In the meantime, Tabaj is asking people to keep an eye out for illegal activity.
