The SUV — which was stolen — caught fire, and witnesses say a police officer had to step in and put out the flames.

“The car caught on fire,” witness Jeff Walker said. “Thank goodness for the police officer, who went and got the fire extinguisher. I think he stopped a fatality.”

Officials say the boy was under house arrest and wearing an ankle bracelet.

The teen was taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment. He has serious injuries, but none are believed to be life-threatening.
